The city of Tangier is a major Moroccan city with a unique strategic location in the northwest of the country, where the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. It is the "Gateway to Africa", closest to Europe, which is only 14 kilometers away across the Strait of Gibraltar. Tangier is the capital of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and the second largest city in Morocco by population (approximately 1.275 million people as of the 2024 census).
